Update at noon today was that as a precautionary messure our lock down will continue -most likely until Sunday. All flights in & out of Port au Prince have been cancelled, and everyone scheduled to leave before Sunday have been asked to reschedule flights to Sunday. For those of you who haven't followed the news, the Haitian presidential election results were released last night. The way their election works is that to be declared president, 1 candidate must receive more than 50% of the vote. That never happens. There were 3 top contenders (out of 19 candidates). In second place, only 6000 votes ahead of the 3rd place contender, is Jude Celestin (sp?)who is the son of the out-going president. Their are suspicions of fraud in the count, which is why the demonstrations. Most of the demonstrations are in Port au Prince - all roads in and out of that city are blocked. There were some minor things here in leogane, but nothing serious. We are safe here.... although 5 days of lock down is bound to be more than a little boring! I read half a book, played 3 hands of gin and 4 rounds of Uno today...
That's it for now.... pray for things to settle down here, and for safety for all volunteers here in Haiti.
Later...
